What Can You Do To Prevent Mould?

Posted by henry in Services Category

Mould PreventionWhen it comes down to it, mould is pretty well everywhere. If you get it in your home, it can be difficult to get rid of. Taking the time to get rid of mould before it starts with a little bit of prevention can save you a ton of frustration and cash in the end. So, how do you prevent mould? We’ve come up with a few suggestions that can ensure you’re doing everything you can to ensure your home stays mould free.

1. Get Informed

They say knowledge is power, and in this case, knowing how mould forms can be your first and best defense. By knowing how and where mould starts, you will be in a better position to identify some of the problem areas in your home. At the same time, you’ll better know when it’s time to call a professional. Each region in any given country will have its own requirements concerning mould, so find out what your region’s climate means for the mould in your home.

2. Due Diligence

The best way to prevent mould is by keeping a keen eye out for any trouble spots. If you’ve never performed a complete inspection of your home for mould, it’s as good a time as any to start. Begin by identifying problem areas. Are there any leaks in your home? Do your windows form condensation? How damp is your basement? Go through every area of your home, find where the trouble areas are and make an action plan if you find problems or potential problems.

3. Stay Well-Ventilated

Air can be one of the best ways to keep mould out of your home. Colder air has a harder time holding in moisture than warmer air, so maintaining a good airflow of cool air in your home will help you stay mould-free. Keep a constant flow of air around your home, and let it get into those spots that it’s harder to get to. We’re talking about your closets, rooms with small windows and anywhere else you think fresh air might not get to very easily. Take away the moisture in the air, and you’re another step ahead of the game.

4. Your Own Personal Plan

There is no single instruction set for any single person. Your own home will have different requirements than another’s. Take the time to find out where all the problem areas are in your home and speak with a professional if you need to. Create a plan and execute it to keep the mould out of your home and the stress out of your life.
